Our West Tyne Federation Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much. Our four schools, Greenhead, Henshaw, Herdley Bank CE Primary Schools, formed a hard federation in September 2014, sharing an Executive Headteacher, enabling all four schools to have a non-teaching Headteacher to secure the strategic vision of all four schools. This successful partnership has evolved and strengthened over a period of eight years. It enables staff in all of these small, rural primary schools to work together and plan exciting, innovative curriculum projects. The children were able to widen their friendship groups and enhance their school experience by working together. Staff work across all four schools promoting their skills and expertise. Our schools are fortunate to have a forward-thinking, pro-active governing body who believe in and promote the benefits of working together. The governing body has representatives from each of our four school communities. The Federation aims to strengthen all four schools and move forward to continue their strong and successful approach of always working in partnership with others for the benefit of all four schools and communities. Curriculum Planning is consistent across the Federation, staff joining together regularly to plan jointly. The children in all four schools work on the same topics at the same time and meet up for special events/themed days/activity days. Children from Greenhead, Henshaw and Herdley Bank meet each Monday for a shared day. The children not only benefit from widening their social experiences but from working with specialist teaching staff in RE, PE, Music and Modern Foreign Languages. The specialist teaching staff also provide their subjects in Whitfield.
